Expressionism and Impressionism
I took this title from impressions in art field. It is not only about French modern music; I put every work together as my master project.
Claude-Achille Debussy ( 22 August 1862 – 25 March 1918) Preludes book II: This piece is one of his late works. Debussy wrote twenty-four preludes between 1909 and 1913, and these preludes in two books are filled with colors, lights, shadows and expressions. The preludes are about mythical character, legendary comedians and natural phenomena.
I chose to play 12 preludes from the second. The second book was composed between 1912-1913. When I compare with Book 1, I would say that it sounds more stereoscopic and highly abstractive. Debussy often performed his own music at his concerts.
*Elie Robert Schmitz said: his variety of coloring was as great in performance as in composition
Debussy invites the listener to his inner thoughts, inspiration and expressions. In these preludes, he chose to put the titles at the end of each piece, as a suggestion to how the player can interpret the music.
