The Norwegian Academy of Music has a long standing central position in guitar education in Norway. The Guitar Department working group is the largest in the country.

The Guitar Department initiates a wide range of projects where teachers and students collaborate and actively participate.

The department has instructors with long experiences as pedagogues and performing guitarists. We cover a broad range of genres and expressions in the Classical tradition, from early lute repertoires to contemporary compositions. Our aim is to familiarise and train our guitar students within a broad and varied repertoire.

Many Norwegian guitarists and guitar pedagogues have been educated at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Amongst them are:

The Norwegian Academy of Music offers programmes in Music Performance and Music Education:

Activities

  • Weekly forums

  • Ensemble and chamber music

  • Concerts at and outside of the Academy

  • Trips to educational institutions in other cities, such as  London, Barcelona, Cologne and Stockholm

  • Guitar festivals, in Koblenz and Amsterdam amongst others

  • Masterclasses and concerts with internationally renowned guitarists such as John Williams, Leo Brouwer, Ana Vidovic, David Russell, Aniello Desiderio, Ricardo Gallén, Marco Socías, Lorenzo Michelli, John Mills, Göran Söllscher and many more

  • Annual Guitar Teachers' Conference hosted by the Norwegian Academy of Music
