Petter Richter started his musical studies with the cello at the age of 7. He started studying the guitar at the age of 13, at first with various local teachers, and later with Erik Stenstadvold at the Norwegian State Academy of music in Oslo.

His teachers later have included German Franz Halasz, argentinian Pablo Marquez and cuban Marco Tamayo. He has also participated in many masterclasses with the likes of David Starobin, the Assad brothers, Roland Dyens, Oscar Ghiglia, Leo Brouwer, John Williams, and Nigel North.

After winning several national and international guitar competitions he has played concerts in most European countries and in Asia. He has played chamber music with musicians like flautist Jaques Zoon, singers Petter Udland Johansen and Arianna Savall, but has worked most extensively with violinist Henning Kraggerud.

He has also commissioned and performed works by a great number of composers including Marcus Paus Dagfinn Rosnes, Maja Solveig Ratkje and Rob Waring. He also plays theorbo and the baroque guitar in various ensembles in central Europe and Norway.
