Basic Entrance Requirements for Admission to Higher Education

Minimum requirement for admission to Norwegian colleges and universities is the successful completion of Norwegian upper secondary education or equivalent international education.

The Norwegian Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate is based on 13 years of schooling. This is longer than in many other countries and you should therefore check if there are additional requirements for your country. NOKUT – the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education – provides a list of requirements for all countries, the GSU list (Higher Education Entrance Qualification for Persons with Foreign Education). Please follow the link below and read about your country:

NOKUT - GSU list

When looking at each country’s educational system, the level of English is a special consideration. For each country, the GSU list indicates if there is an English language skills requirement, along with a number indicating which categories of applicants from a particular country may be exempted. If there is a number ( 1), 2), 3) or 4) ) along with the "Yes" for English test for your country, please read more about language requirements here.

The Academy has special requirements for proficiency in Norwegian. Read about how you can meet Norwegian and English requirements.
