Course description
This subject focuses on channelling the students' knowledge of arrangement, harmonic theory and form analysis into a tool for analysing musical pieces that they are working with at the moment.

Learning objectives
On completion of the course, the student is expected to:
- Be able to work independently and analytically with their own repertoire.
- Be able to put their fundamental knowledge of music theory to use in interpretation.
- Understand that analysis cannot give definite answers, but can rather encourage imaginative and creative interpretations.
Overview
Working with this subject will give students a deeper understanding of the music they are playing, and give them more authority and confidence when performing.
Students will analyse pieces from their own main instrument repertoire and present the analysis in class. Afterwards, fellow students may pose questions to the student presenting.
Structure
The subject is taught in groups, one hour a week for one semester.
Course requirements
- Attendance is compulsory. More than 20 % absence from class will normally cause the student to fail the subject.
- The student must do at least two presentations of pieces in the course of the semester.
Final assessment
Student assessment is based on the learning objectives. The final assessment will be given as a pass/fail mark, which will be determined by the course instructor based on each student’s level of achievement throughout the course period.
