Course description
The course covers basic practical use of the organ, development of playing technique, and interpretation of music in different styles. The course is open to all students interested in getting acquainted with the organ as an instrument.
The course cannot be chosen by students majoring in organ

Learning objectives
Upon completing the course, it is expected that the student
- has basic musical and technical skills to utilize the organ's capabilities
- has acquired fundamental repertoire in various styles and traditions
- masters basic and appropriate techniques for studying and practicing on the organ
Overview
Based on the student's prerequisites, the course will include work on
- techniques for manual and pedal keyboard
- studying repertoire
- interpretation and performance
- practice/study techniques
Structure
The teaching is provided individually and/or in groups. The content and methods are adapted to the students' levels. The recommended teaching resource is 22.5 minutes per student per week for 22 weeks.
Course requirements
Students attend at least 80 percent of the teaching in the subject. Absence of more than 20% will normally lead to failure of the course. By the end of the academic year, the student must present a repertoire list of at least 20 minutes covering all areas of work in the course.
Deadline: By May 15 in the second semester of the subject, the repertoire list must be approved by the course instructor.
Final assessment
All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Students are assessed in correspondence to the learning outcomes of the course. The final assessment will be given as a mark of “passed”/”failed” for each individual student, which shall be determined on the basis of her or his level demonstrated through the course work.
New assessment
Students failing the course will have to apply to re-follow the course for a new assessment. Students may only re-follow the course if there are available places.
