Project-based principal instrument for classical performers

Classical performers applying for the Master of Music Performance may apply to replace parts of the regular main instrument instruction with project funds.

Information about the project-based variant

For applicants to the Master of Music Performance, it is possible to apply to replace parts of the regular main instrument instruction with project funds if you apply for one of the following concentrations:

The project-based course Artistic Specialisation I — Project KUNSTPRO70a takes place in the autumn and spring semesters of the first year of the program.

The project funds can be used for various types of instruction or project implementation (such as recording and/or production costs, guidance from artists/experts from other artistic fields). Costs associated with the project funds must be approved by a supervisor at The Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) before they can be realized.

In short, students who are approved for this arrangement will receive approximately 20% less of the regular instrument instruction over the course of their studies, but in return, they will receive NOK 23,500 in project funds and 4 x 60 minutes of guidance related to the project. It is also possible to apply for the arrangement as a duo, trio, or quartet, and in that case, the total project funds will be correspondingly larger (for example, NOK 47,000 for a duo).

A limited number of students are accepted into this project-based arrangement each academic year (4 students). Potential applicants must explain why such a project-based alternative may be relevant for them. Stricter requirements are placed on the content and length of the Project Proposal which has to be submitted in Søknadsweb for those applying for the project-based instrument variant.
