Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, it is expected that the student will be able to
- Transmit an acoustic ensemble in digital audio media
- Utilize sound equipment effectively and efficiently
- Plan and execute music production projects within given timeframes
- Collaborate on projects, both in leadership roles and as team members
- Demonstrate the ability to document and reflect on their work processes
Overview
The course will include work with
- Audio recording of acoustic ensembles in concert halls
- Room acoustics
- Sound theory
- Stereo microphone techniques in concert halls
- Use of support microphones combined with main microphones
- Formats for digitalized sound
- Project planning

Students use their own laptop in the course. The student needs internet access to follow the online teaching. The student must have access to a stereo pair of microphones (students at NMH can borrow these).
Course requirements
1. Mandatory participation
Participation in the scheduled lessons is compulsory. Absence of more than 20% will normally lead to failure of the course.
2. Mandatory assignments
The student shall submit the following assignments:
- Sound theory
- Room acoustics
- Stereo microphone technique
- Digitized sound
- Project
The assignments must be submitted by the deadline to be approved. All assignments must be approved by the instructor by December 1st / June 1st.
Final assessment
All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Students are assessed in correspondence to the learning outcomes of the course. The final assessment will be given as a mark of “passed”/”failed” for each individual student, which shall be determined on the basis of her or his level demonstrated through the course work.New assessment
