Course description
The course provides piano and potentially organ students with an introduction to orchestral/ensemble playing with a conductor.
The course is project-based and will primarily involve participation in the school's ensembles and orchestra under the guidance of the instructor.

Learning objectives
Upon completing the course, it is expected that the student:
- Has basic knowledge of the tools and codes required to play in an ensemble/orchestra with a conductor.
- Can participate in orchestra/ensemble projects as an independent performer.
Overview
The student will experience how to
- count measures/rests
- interpret the conductor's beats
- listen to fellow musicians without the aid of a score
- understand the role their part plays in the whole
- play together with the orchestra and conductor
- For pianists (if applicable to the project): play the celesta
Structure
The course is primarily taught on a project basis. Prior to each project, individual sessions will be provided as preparation. Throughout the project, the responsible teacher will, as far as practical, attend rehearsals to provide advice and feedback.
The number of projects per student is not fixed and will depend on:
- The number of projects requiring piano/celesta/organ during the current academic year.
- The number of students who have applied for the course.
It may be necessary to supplement with other orchestral literature if there are few tasks for the orchestral pianist.
Course requirements
Attendance is mandatory for all rehearsals and concerts related to the project, as well as individual sessions.
Final assessment
All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Students are assessed in correspondence to the learning outcomes of the course. The final assessment will be given as a mark of “passed”/”failed” for each individual student, which shall be determined on the basis of her or his level demonstrated through the course work.
New assessment
In case of a failed assessment, there will be no reassessment for the same project.
