For Jazz and Improvisation Students
Course description
Students in an established ensemble can apply for lessons with one of NMH's regular teachers to deepen their knowledge in a specific genre, method, style, etc.
Genre, style, and/or method must be stated in the application, preferably also the desired teacher. All members of the ensemble must actively participate and complete the course.
The allocation of the course depends on available resources in the department.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, it is expected that the students
- can express themselves within/with the help of the genre/method that the course addresses
- have knowledge and skills in the relevant genre and can relate their own work to other/previous performers/style creators
- master key techniques in the relevant discipline
Overview
The method in the course is primarily ensemble playing. Additionally, the teacher may assign tasks involving listening, transcription, arranging/composing, supplementary literature, or other relevant activities based on the specific content of the course
Structure
The course consists of rehearsals with a fixed ensemble, with an assigned teacher for 2 hours 8 times per semester. The teaching method will alternate between independent work and teacher-led instruction. Teaching may take place as weekly sessions, block sessions, and/or intensive projects. The ensemble must book rooms in accordance with NMH guidelines.
Course requirements
- Participation in the scheduled lessons is compulsory. Absence of more than 20% will normally lead to failure of the course. Musikerne er gjensidig ansvarlige for det kunstneriske resultatet av ensemblets arbeid. The musicians are mutually responsible for the artistic outcome of the ensemble's work. If a student does not complete the course, the remaining students in the ensemble may still receive an assessment if the learning objectives can be achieved with a stand-in. The ensemble is responsible for finding a stand-in and may need to cover associated costs.
- The ensemble should document the material covered with recordings, concerts, or other formats in the second semester.
Deadline: By May 15th of the course's second semester, all requirements must be approved.
Final assessment
All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Students are assessed in correspondence to the learning outcomes of the course. The final assessment will be given as a mark of “passed”/”failed” for each individual student, which shall be determined on the basis of her or his level demonstrated through the course work.

En student kan ikke kreve ny vurdering hvis ensemblet allerede har bestått kurset med en stand-in med mindre det kan fremlegges legeattest. Emnet kan bare gjennomføres en gang.
