Number of Students

The Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) educates music therapists, music educators, musicians, composers, conductors, church musicians, piano tuners, and music technologists. Students can pursue Undergraduate, Graduate, and doctoral degrees in music – both practical and theoretical subjects. Additionally, NMH offers annual courses and continuing education ranging from 5 to 60 credits.

Applicants

The number of applicants varies from program to program. For a bachelor's degree, there can be 200 applicants per place (performance for the improvisation-jazz program) to three applicants per place. A place is defined here as applicants who accept the offer of admission.

Completion

NMH actively works to ensure that students complete their studies on time. Well-being and health are important to us. In recent years, we have focused on helping first-year students settle in at NMH. Student contacts follow up with students in various programs throughout the academic year.

Staff

The number of full-time equivalents has decreased from 234 in 2022 to 206 in 2024. The reason is that NMH, like the entire university and college sector, faced tighter budgets.

Gender Distribution

he Diversity and Equality Committee is essential in promoting equality and preventing discrimination. The committee identifies biases, proposes measures, and supports management in diversity and equality work.

Concerts

The Norwegian Academy of Music is one of the largest concert organizers in the country. Most concerts are free.
