About Terje Tønnesen

Terje Tønnesen is among Norway’s leading violinists and plays an essential role in Nordic music life through his function as artistic director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra (1977–) and Camerata Nordica, Sweden (1996–). He is also 1. concertmaster of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (1983–). He was artistic director of the Oslo Winter Night festival (1995–2011) and “Baroque” (2001–2010), a festival in Øland, Sweden. He has had an international career as a soloist and chamber musician and has won several prizes through the years.

Terje Tønnesen has done several recordings as a soloist and chamber musician. He also performed and recorded many works commissioned for him. He works with artists from different genres like jazz, rock and folk. Terje Tønnesen has also composed music for several theatre productions. He was appointed Knight of St. Olav's Order 1st Class 2015.

His aim as an artist is to combine knowledge and development of tradition as part of a continuation and contradict them to create fresh products.
