About the music and the composers

The choir programme features music by Norwegian composers. Included is an invigorating Bånsull from Telemark, arranged by Frank Havrøy. Frank is a professor of ensemble singing at NMH and has for many years been part of the renowned vocal group Nordic Voices.

Med en bukett
is a beautiful love poem by Henrik Wergeland, set to music by Torbjørn Dyrud. Torbjørn studied at NMH and now works as a conductor, singer-songwriter, composer, and organist.

The Start-up Choir is conducted by Vice-Principal Vivianne Sydnes.

Workers Union was composed by the Dutch composer Louis Andriessen in 1975, and it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. NMH is marking this milestone by selecting it as the first ensemble project for all new bachelor students.

The piece was written for "any loud-sounding group of instruments," making it an excellent choice for approximately 70 young bachelor students from various musical genres and practices who were coming together to perform for the first time. Workers Union features a series of repetitive rhythms that allow great individual freedom in the choice of tones and instrumentation. However, as the title suggests, unity, collaboration, and strength are central themes that bind the piece together.

The ensemble project will be directed by John Vinge and Kjell Tore Innervik. Musicians from Oslo Sinfonietta participate.
