Wim Van Hasselt brings solo, chamber, and orchestral music into a lively dialogue. As a soloist, he has performed with Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Munich Radio Orchestra, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, and has appeared at leading venues including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Beethovenhalle Bonn, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Tokyo Opera City Hall. Gramophone described him as “an exceptionally fine player with all the equipment in his armoury to delight, surprise, and challenge the listener at every turn.”
Van Hasselt was a member of both the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, having first held positions in the orchestra academies of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Stuttgart State Opera. He has also appeared as a guest with the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
He has initiated numerous commissions, world premieres, and first recordings, including works by Iván Fischer, Wim Henderickx, Daniel Wohl, JacobTV, Nicole Lizée, and Markus Stockhausen. Among his distinctions are the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s Prix du Salon and the Edison Classical Award for Imaginary Mirror, the debut album by ART’uur, his duo with percussionist Koen Plaetinck.
He is Professor of Trumpet at the University of Music Freiburg and the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, and Senior Brass Tutor of the European Union Youth Orchestra. He regularly gives masterclasses around the world and has served on the juries of major international competitions, including the Jan Koetsier Competition, Zoltán Kodály Competition, and ARD International Music Competition.
