The principal instruments are trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba, but certain instrument variations, both historical and modern, can be studied as elective courses.
The brass instructors have broad experience as professional orchestral musicians, soloists, and chamber performers. In addition to their performance careers, they participate in development projects (R&D) at the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH), often in collaboration with students.
Masterclasses and workshops
Leading soloists and orchestral musicians regularly visit to offer masterclasses and insights into the international music world. Additionally, we provide workshops featuring other expertise, such as Alexander Technique.
A changing musical landscape
The brass department is open to the evolving demands of a changing musical landscape. In addition to achieving a high level of instrumental skill, a professional career today often requires creating one's own opportunities. Regardless of future career paths, performers need a broad and varied repertoire and the ability to adapt to different musical styles, from baroque to contemporary music.
New teaching approaches and methods are tested alongside traditional instruction. Individual principal instrument lessons are supplemented with group classes, where students receive feedback from peers and teachers.
