NMH Still in Top 10

The QS Ranking in Performing Arts was released on 23 March. As in previous years, NMH is still the only Nordic school in the top 10. The Royal Danish Academy of Music is just behind in 14th place, the same position as last year.

Consistent ranking

Only a few years ago, the Norwegian Academy of Music was only in the top 30s. In 2021, we jumped 21 places, and it seems that the high ranking has stuck. For international students, the QS ranking can be a good measure when comparing schools and choosing where to apply.

"You can always question such rankings, but it is gratifying to see that NMH maintains its high ranking year after year," says Principal Astrid Kvalbein. "It provides motivation to continue the work of maintaining quality in the future, for me and several of my colleagues and students, I hope. It is everyone's effort together that gives us this good international reputation."

Once again this year, the Royal College of Music in London takes first place. In second and third place, you find the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris and the Royal Academy of Music, also in London.

Last year's 2nd and 3rd places, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and The Juilliard School, fell to 4th and 5th place. The Norwegian Academy of Music was in 8th place in 2022.

Every year, QS World University Rankings evaluates universities and colleges worldwide and assigns scores, like a Michelin guide for universities. The HES-QS World University Rankings is an annual ranking published by Times Higher Education and Quacquarelli Symonds, released since 2004. Among the used criteria, peer review carries the most weight, and university and cultural sector leaders respond to the survey.
