The aim of this CEMPE-funded project is to establish a student-led recording label in the University of Stavanger Faculty of Performing Arts. This project will serve first-and-foremost as an educational tool, to teach the inner workings of the music industry by producing, recording, engineering, and releasing a full-length album. The pilot record will be a big-band jazz orchestra comprised primarily of students, and the music production and recording (MPR) program at UiS will fill the technical roles of recording and production, while label responsibilities such as programming, album artwork, marketing, and dissemination will be carried out by a student committee of performing and MPR students. Ultimately, the project will culminate in the release of a record, a journal article publication, and the development of an elective course curriculum that centers around the record label as a means of teaching music business in higher music education.
