An a/r/tographic and cross-disciplinary approach to arts education

Elisabeth Røvær

With this project we are looking to push and stretch the limits and contents of the arts education programme at the Faculty of Performing Arts at the University of Stavanger. We will be developing a practice-led project focusing on performative and creative processes in music, dance and theatre in a community context. In doing so, we wish to argue for (and practise) an arts education driven by a performative (von Hantelmann, 2014) perspective on learning and teaching in which both tutors and students take a creative approach to the arts education practice.

To frame the project, we will be leaning on a/r/tography (Le Blanc & Irwin, 2019) as a method. The project will be devised and carried out as a cross-disciplinary community outreach project in our region.

The project is initiated by music educator, musician and assistant professor of pedagogy and music didactics Sanna Törmälä-Tranberg and dance artist, dance teacher and PhD fellow Mari Flønes.
