Con­cert Pro­duc­tion for Bach­el­or Stu­dents I

Course description

This course provides a theoretical and methodological introduction to working with development of concerts and planning concerts and other performances in different formats, aimed at different target groups. The course has entrepreneurial elements like learning to see opportunities in different market segments and value chains, and how to utilize these opportunities. The course also provides communication training and an introduction to PR and marketing.

Concert concepts developed in KONSPRO20 may be carried out if students take the follow up-course KONSPRO21 in the spring semester.

The course is open to all second module bachelor students.

Course coordinator: Brass, Woodwind and Percussion Department.


Learning objectives

On completion of the course, students are expected to:

  • be experienced in the preparatory stages of a concert production
  • have knowledge of various markets, value chains and target groups that are relevant to their own productions
  • be able to create a realistic concert concept
  • have theoretical and methodological knowledge of concert production

  • Concert dramaturgy, storytelling and staging
  • Development of an artistic concept wherein students themselves are performers and create the program
  • Development of a PR-plan for different formats and channels

Structure

Tuition will mainly take place in plenary. Approximate teaching resource is 90 minutes a week for 10 weeks. Students may also be divided into groups for planning concert concepts. Each group has the possibility of receiving group tutoring.

Course requirements

  1. The student must develop a plan for a concert project adapted to a specific target group and venue. The plan must include a concert script with artistic content, as well as a plan for funding and suggestions of possible collaborators.
  2. Students must hold an oral presentation of their concert plan for their teacher and fellow students.

All coursework must be finished by 1 December.

Final assessment

All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining final assessment.

Assessment is based on the learning objectives. The final assessment will be given as a pass/fail mark, which will be determined by the course coordinator based on each student’s level of achievement throughout the course period.

New assessment

Students who fail the course must retake the course in its entirety.
