Anne Katrine Bergby was born in 1964 and grew up as a flautist in Sarpsborg's rich amateur band environment. After studying music at Greåker High School, she undertook music pedagogy studies at The Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) and the main subject in musicology at the University of Oslo (UiO) with aural skills as her field of specialisation.

Bergby taught flute for over 20 years but gradually dedicated herself entirely to aural training. In this regard, she worked at several institutions, including Heggen High School, the North Norwegian Conservatory of Music, UiO, and The Bible School in Staffeldtsgate. At the latter, she also served as head of the music department.

Bergby has been a permanent employee at NMH since 1999. In her work with teaching, research, and subject development, her main interests have mainly been practical intonation and differentiated aural training.
