MaGe – Diversity in Aural Education

A digital resource bank for diverse learning materials for aural training – based on Scandinavian female composers

In the "Scandinavian ear training tradition," teaching is based on the sounding music as well as the repertoire and academic needs of the pupils/students, tailored to their instrument and field of study. This approach creates a strong connection between the subjects within music studies and highlights the tangible and direct relevance of aural training to other musical activities such as practising, performing, composing, conducting, and music teaching.

The project is a collaboration between networks of expertise in aural skills/ear training across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. It aims to result in a website offering teaching and learning resources for use by aural skills teachers. The material will consist of selected musical examples accompanied by digital presentations. Each presentation will come with didactic reflections, worksheets, teaching tips, and, if applicable, inspirational videos

Objectives of the project

  1. To expand the repertoire for aural training by highlighting music with high-quality characteristics for teaching aural skills/ear training, created by Scandinavian female composers.
  2. To make teaching materials easily accessible, enabling teachers to conduct lessons based on an expanded repertoire.
  3. To inspire aural skills teachers to increase diversity in the teaching and learning materials for the subject.
  4. To inspire and contribute to teachers’ pedagogical development work.
  5. To raise international awareness of "the Scandinavian ear training tradition."
