Kjell Tore Innervik: The quartertone marimba

Developing a full range quartertone marimba.

Summary

The aim of the project is to develop a full range quartertone marimba within an equally tempered scale. This includes to

  • develop instrumental technique
  • develop notation
  • develop repertoire

- and present a concert with works commissioned for the new instrument.

Artistic result

The artistic result was presented in the Lindeman Hall at NMH 26 February 2007, with the following programme:

  • Improvisation, together with the pianist Misha Alperin
  • Ragnhild Berstad: Con Vitri (modus Il)
  • David Bratlie: Microwaves
  • Bjørn Fongaard: Piece for Quartertone Instrument
  • Ivar Frounberg: Waves and velocities of dawn and dusk
  • "En slags kollegablues07", togheter with the saxophone player Morten Halle
  • Peter Tornquist: Q/Carving
  • Rob Waring: Jalan Panta i Sari, together with the percussionist Håkon Stene James Wood: Elanga N’Kake singing to his craft

Written documentation

Innervik has submitted a written presentation of 70 pages, as well as recordings, photos, video, text and score examples.
