NMH announces up to three PhD fellowships within the PhD programme in Artistic Research. Each position is a full-time, three-year appointment starting 1 September 2026. Candidates may apply for a 75% position, which extends the fellowship period to four years at 75% salary. Any agreement on such an extension must be made at the time of appointment.
The PhD programme places artistic practice at the core of the study, while artistic reflection forms an essential part of the project. The programme consists of a training component and an artistic doctoral project, leading to the degree PhD in Artistic Research in Music. Completion of the programme qualifies for appointment as Associate Professor. Further information about the programme can be found here.
Artistic research at NMH is grounded in principles of sustainability and promotes ethically conscious and reflective research and development practices. All artistic research projects are part of the Arne Nordheim Centre (NordART) and are largely organized under departments and disciplinary groups where senior researchers and PhD fellows collaborate, discuss, and develop projects.
We are looking for artists with a high level of expertise and a strong artistic portfolio who wish to carry out performing and/or creative doctoral projects in music. We welcome projects across all genres and musical practices, including those that cross departmental boundaries or introduce new disciplinary groups within NordART.
Please read the application guidelines carefully before you submit the application form.
