Whether you are a choral, band or orchestral conductor, what you are doing is combining musicality with leadership. As well as good craftsmanship and an interest in people, you also need to have the ability to shape and convey the music. In combination, these skills enable the conductor to communicate with the musicians without words.
Over the course of the programme, the students will work with amateurs and professional ensembles. Most conducting students have engagements with amateur ensembles in the Oslo region alongside their studies, and there are good job prospects for qualified conductors.
Principal instrument tuition is a key part of the programme.
