Master of Music with Individual Concentration (FRIMA)

The Master of Music with Individual Concentration is a two-year programme of music study that will help you to shape your own artistic profile and to choose areas to examine in more depth.

The study programme is for students who want extra emphasis on developing their own artistic profile, and is an alternative for those who have projects and ideas that are difficult to implement in the other study programs at the Norwegian Academy of Music. The study programme is not associated with a specific musical genre.

Performer and/or music creator/composer

The study programme is suitable for students that have an artistic profile and/or musical projects that typically will challenge or enrich established musical norms - and students with a great motivation in developing such artistic profiles through skills as a performer, performer/music creator or as a composer/music creator. This study will enable you to become an active, reflective and exploring artist.

You will encounter other dedicated students and outstanding professors from Norway and abroad. You will have a precious opportunity to pursue in-depth study, and as a student, you are the focus of the teaching activities. You will also participate in a collaborative and dynamic learning environment in an inclusive social community.

When you have completed your studies

The programme will promote your further development as an artist and craftsperson and forms a solid basis for your future career in the world of music.

When you have completed your studies, your path will lead to music professions or music research professions at the doctoral level. An increasingly large number of students also aim at establishing careers as freelance musicians, often alternating between playing, teaching, composing, producing, conducting and managing. The possibilities and combinations are diverse.
