Course description
The course is reserved for 4th-year students in the bachelor programme in church music.
The course cannot be combined with ORGEL21 Organ specialisation.
The course examines style and form exercises in different types of chorale adaptations, preludes/toccatas, partitas, fantasies, suites, etc. In the 2nd semester, the course emphasises the 20th century and the development of the student's own musical language.

Overview
The course includes
- exercises in style and form in different types of chorale adaptations, preludes/toccatas, partitaer, fantasies, suites, etc.

Structure
The course is organized with individual lessons, within a time frame of 30 minutes per week per student for 24 weeks. Students are expected to work independently outside this time frame. Parts of the instruction can be organized in other ways if appropriate.
Course requirements
Students must participate with improvisation in organ forum or in a concert at least once per semester.
Final assessment
All coursework requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Students are assessed in correspondence to the learning objectives of the course. The final assessment is expressed with the grading scale A-F, and set on the basis of an exam that is part of the student's organ exam concert.
Exam concert
The organ improvisation exam will be part of the student's main instrument exam. The improvisation part is separate and must be 10-15 minutes in addition to the ordinary organ exam. The student improvises over a number of themes and forms which are stated three days in advance. Separate grades are given for organ and organ improvisation.
New assessment
Students who do not pass the course must retake the part of the exam which was graded "Fail" in the ordinary exam.
