Recent years, new courses and models have emerged at the Nordic music education institutions related to artistic research and reflection. This development is happening simultaneously with the increasement of staff with background in the growing field of artistic research, as well as seeing the need in performance education to strengthen awareness and reflection on musician's role, artistic identity and contextual understanding, in addition to connecting performance to philosophical, theoretical and artistic references.
CEMPE has established a think tank where teachers running artistic research based courses in the Scandinavian countries, meet to exchange experiences, teaching resources and ideas, and discuss the potential of development in artistic research based performance education on bachelor and master levels.
