Norges musikkhøgskole Norwegian Academy of Music Search

Accompanists are musicians of equal standing when performing alongside singers and instrumentalists. Co-operation skills are essential, and the accompanist must want to explore a wide-ranging repertoire. Accompanists practise how to listen to themselves and their partner at the same time.

Performance students at the Norwegian Academy of Music are accompanied by professional pianists throughout their training. The Academy’s 23 accompanists also offer the students guidance on their repertoire. The time spent with accompanists allows the students to practise their ensemble and listening skills.

There are two master programmes for students looking to become collaborative pianists: one for accompanists and one for répétiteurs. Accompaniment is also an optional module for piano students on the bachelor course.

Outside the academy, the professional accompanists are involved in concerts, recordings and other projects.
